One of our team members is Milton Turcios, who works in Document Fulfillment and Customer Service.

Milton, like CorpNet CEO Nellie Akalp, is the child of immigrants, and he was the first child in his family to be born in the United States. In addition to his full-time job at CorpNet, Milton is currently attending Cal-State University Northridge (CSUN), majoring in Cinema and Television Arts with a focus in TV Production.

Milton started working at CorpNet in August of 2011. He describes his work in document fulfillment as being the last leg of a relay race. “You must wait for the baton to be passed around a couple of times,” said Milton. “In my department we have to wait until the original documentation gets processed in our office, then we must send the documents to the state for filing, the state then files the paperwork and sends it back to our office. At that point, I receive original documents from the state allowing me to finalize the customer’s order by Obtaining Federal Tax ID numbers, generating Operating Agreement/Bylaws and Minutes, and all the other smaller tasks that go along with it, like Cover letters and Packing Slips.”

Milton said that he has found CorpNet to be an ideal place to work. “I love my co-workers, the atmosphere, and the standards which we hold ourselves to,” said Milton. “We are truly trying to create a new standard in the online incorporation services industry. On a daily basis we strive to do what’s best for our clients. We give a personal touch to the industry that we’re in. A lot of the clients come in not knowing one step of the incorporation process and after 5 minutes or 15 minutes with one of our representatives, they have all the knowledge needed to help them move forward in establishing their business.”

Milton said that the most inspiring aspect of his job is simply having a front row seat to the origins of American entrepreneurship. “Just seeing how many people open up businesses in the United States is really inspiring,” said Milton. “It’s amazing how many entrepreneurs there are in this country willing to follow their dreams by starting up and operating their own business.”

There are lots of other companies offering online incorporation services to help entrepreneurs start a business, but Milton believes that CorpNet has a unique focus on truly caring customer service.

“The biggest advantage that customers get when they hire CorpNet is that our company is based on knowledge, honesty, kindness, and great customer service,” said Milton. “Every time I help a customer with their business filings, or answering questions on the phone, I’m giving them 100% honesty and dedication. If you ask me a question, I’ll answer it truthfully. I’m very dedicated to my job and I really strive to please the customers to the best of my abilities.”

Working at CorpNet can get a little crazy sometimes, with all the last-minute customer requests and urgent business filings that need to be processed. Milton said that his favorite story was a time when he was about to leave for the day, saw what he thought was a rubber snake on the floor of the restroom, and then realized that the snake was REAL. “I told my co-worker Amanda about the snake and we didn’t know how to handle it, so we put boxes and reams of paper covering up the opening below the bathroom door,” said Milton. “We called Phil Akalp and the property management team, and they took care of it.”

The nature of CorpNet’s business is accuracy, speed and accountability, and Milton lives this expectation in his own work in document fulfillment.

“When you’re in document fulfillment, you’re always working with deadlines,” said Milton. “I often stay late to make sure we are sending things out on time. There have been times where the cleaning crew is on its way into the office, while I am on my way out. Whatever it takes to get it right for the customer.”

Milton had an early interest in business, studying business classes in high school. Asked which type of business he would like to start, Milton said that it would either be a sports bar and grill (“I’m a sports fanatic,” he said) or a Salvadoran restaurant/bakery with his mother and grandmother.

Beyond the business world, Milton said that he would love to start a non-profit organization to help Hispanic students that have migrated to the U.S. to learn the English language and be empowered to succeed in school.

Milton said that CorpNet truly is a family atmosphere, befitting a small family-run company.

“My favorite memory of working at CorpNet is the impromptu birthday lunch my co-workers put together for me,” said Milton. “They called me into our lunch room, they proceeded to sing Happy Birthday, and lit candles on my favorite pizza! It was a very special moment for me. I really appreciated the gesture and it drew me closer to my co-workers.”

A major part of the unique culture of CorpNet is the leadership of CorpNet CEO Nellie Akalp, who runs CorpNet along with her husband Phil. “I’m very grateful and fortunate to have Nellie as my boss,” said Milton. “She treats us all like family, but when it’s business time, we all understand we have a job to do and Nellie is our leader, so she takes the lead and does so gracefully. She works harder than anyone I know. I don’t know how she juggles marriage, four kids, and operating her own business. But that’s Nellie for you, always on the go.”

CorpNet is in the business of managing details and solving problems for our customers, and Milton said that Nellie’s leadership is always focused on this same spirit of service and problem-solving. “Nellie and Phil do everything in their power to help you excel,” said Milton. “If a department hits a snag, they help us identify the problem and find innovative solutions to move forward.”

One of the things I love most about being a small business owner is the relationships I get to create over time with our small business employees. I love working with all of our CorpNet staff, but one of them has been with us longer than any of the others – she’s really more like a daughter to me than an employee, and she’s seen it all during her time at our company: so I’m pleased to put the “CorpNet staff spotlight” on Amanda Beren, our Senior Document Analyst.

Amanda Beren has worked for CorpNet and for our prior business incorporation service (that we started years ago, before CorpNet) for almost 12 years. She started working for us at age 19, and then when our prior company was sold to Intuit in 2005, Amanda stayed there for a few years before coming back to work with my husband Phil and me when we decided to start CorpNet in 2009.

As a Senior Document Analyst, Amanda is responsible for processing documents, making sure the business filings are done correctly and efficiently. It’s very much a “detail-oriented” job, and Amanda keeps track of dozens and hundreds of details every day with diligence, tenacity and grace under pressure.

“I love what I do and I love who I work for,” said Amanda. “I’ve been working with CorpNet CEO Nellie Akalp since I was a teenager, and I’m passionate about what I do and I love learning new things every day to help our clients start a business and manage their business filings.”

Most people might think of business filings as a pretty straightforward, even “boring” job – but Amanda said that one of the surprising things about this job is how quickly you can see the overall shifts in the national economy. As a business formation service, CorpNet has a finger on the pulse of entrepreneurship in America.

“Since CorpNet is in the industry of forming businesses we can see firsthand how the small business community is reacting to the economy in a positive and negative way,” said Amanda. “We see when people are more optimistic and more cautious. We see people leaving jobs or rebounding from unemployment by starting a business. It’s much more than just handling paperwork. I get to hear exciting stories every day – so our work is never boring!”

“A lot of people don’t understand why I love my job so much, because it’s technically ‘paperwork’ and most people hate dealing with paperwork,” said Amanda. “Well, I love it. I love to learn random things about certain states and counties that may or may not come in handy to me in the future. Either way, its knowledge and you never know when you’ll need use it. I’m learning all the time.”

Amanda prides herself on her meticulous attention to detail and the hands-on customer service that CorpNet delivers for its customers.

“I’ve been doing this for close to 12 years, and I can honestly say that CorpNet’s biggest advantage for customers is that our customers get excellent service and hands-on treatment,” Amanda said. “Everyone at CorpNet takes pride in our knowledge of the products and services we offer, and we make every customer a priority. It doesn’t matter where you’re located, we can help you. Like me for example – I have a lot of detailed knowledge for how to handle business filings in all 50 states.”

Amanda comes by her detail-oriented style of work naturally, but she’s also had some help to “learn the ropes” of the business incorporation world along the way. Amanda said that one of her most vivid memories of working at CorpNet was a time when she was working with me on some urgent documents for non-profit organizations, and it took a few tries to get them right.

“Nellie was training me to do processing for non-profits, and I had sent her a document that I thought was done, but she kept sending it back to me because she kept finding errors that she needed me to fix,” said Amanda. “Nellie had marked my precious document with a red Sharpie marker saying ‘Redo’ with all the errors circled. We both stayed until 10 p.m. until I finally got it right and to this day I have not made those same mistakes again!”

The CorpNet team often has to handle last-minute filing deadlines for our clients, and Amanda has proven herself to be dedicated to getting our clients’ work done, no matter what it takes. “There was one incident a few years ago where one of the states made a last-minute change to its due date for annual filings,” said Amanda. “We had to scramble at the last minute to get done with hundreds of filings for our customers, in a matter of days, to prevent our customers from getting late fees.”

Amanda comes from entrepreneurial family roots, as both of her parents own their own businesses. One of the biggest entrepreneurship lessons Amanda has learned from her parents is time management. “When you run your own business, the hardest thing is managing your time,” said Amanda. “It’s hard to give great service without cannibalizing yourself. You have to strike the right balance to stay as profitable as you want to be while still delighting your customers.”

Asked what kind of business she would like to start if she was going to become an entrepreneur, Amanda says she’s happy right where she is! (Good answer, Amanda! We don’t want to lose you.)

“Call me crazy, but I wouldn’t want to stop what I am doing,” said Amanda. “I’ve been in it too long and I’ve got a strong knowledge base in business filings that I don’t want to go to waste. So whether it is with CorpNet or on my own, I’d still want to help new businesses with their start up needs.”

Amanda says that she really feels “at home” working at CorpNet.

“I definitely don’t feel like I’m just another employee at CorpNet. I definitely get a sense of ownership,” said Amanda. “Probably because I’ve worked for Nellie and Phil Akalp for so long or because I was a part of their business start-up process. I still remember the day we got our first customer call – we were so excited! But either way, compared to other jobs I’ve had this place is the best. It’s not a corporate type of structure, it’s definitely a family type of company with a tight-knit group of people who care about each other and who are happy to work together.”

Working with Amanda has been one of the highlights of my career as a CEO of CorpNet. As long as I’ve been in the business of helping entrepreneurs incorporate a company, Amanda’s been right there backing me up, in good times and in tough times, and everywhere in between.

Amanda said, “Nellie has been a major part of my life for over a decade. She’s my boss, my friend, my mentor and a major inspiration in my life. She’s one of the hardest working people I know in and out of the office. It helps me puts my work ethics at a higher standard. I feel she helped me be who I am today and I am thankful to have her in my life.”

That is high praise! Thank you to Amanda for everything you do every day, and everything you’ve done over the past 12 years, to help make CorpNet what it is today. I look forward to many great things to come!

CorpNet is proud to announce that it has made Inc.’s prestigious “Inc. 5000 Regionals” list in 2021 as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the state of California. Out of the 250 companies to receive the honor in the state, CorpNet was named number 213 on the list.

Collectively, this year’s award honorees demonstrated 137 percent median growth, had $6.7 billion in total revenue, and added 17,666 jobs in the state. Where companies ranked on the list was based on percentage growth of their annual revenue from 2017 to 2019. CorpNet achieved 65 percent revenue growth in that time period.

Businesses in five other regions (D.C. Metro, Florida, Midwest, N.Y. Metro, and Texas) were also eligible to apply for regional awards. Complete results of the Inc. 5000 Regionals: 2021 can be found via inc.com/inc5000/regionals.

“With this being the first year that we applied for this meaningful award, we are thrilled to be included and recognized with other remarkable businesses in California,” shared CorpNet CEO Nellie Akalp. “My business partner (and husband) Phil and I credit this achievement to our hard-working team and our loyal customers.”

The Inc. 5000 Regionals are an expansion of Inc.’s hallmark Inc. 5000 awards, which recognize the fastest-growing private companies throughout all of America. CorpNet has also achieved national recognition on that list in 2015 (#2,505), 2016 (#4,856), and 2020 (#4,900). It has applied to be considered as an honoree on the national 2021 Inc. 5000 list and will learn the results this summer.

“It’s humbling and truly an honor for our company to be acknowledged as one of the most successful in California, especially given the challenges of the pandemic that affected so many businesses in so many industries,” said Phil Akalp, CorpNet’s chairman and chief marketing officer. “Thank you to our exceptional team members and customers. They have fueled our growth and enabled us to not only meet but exceed our expectations.”

CorpNet is proud to announce that it has made Inc. Magazine’s prestigious “Inc. 5000” list for 2021. As an Inc. 5000 honoree, we have been recognized as one of the fastest-growing private companies in America.

During a stretch when the economy experienced limited growth, CorpNet achieved 120% revenue growth over the past three years.

“I am beyond thrilled about the growth of our company despite the economic uncertainties that have arose recently due to the pandemic.” shared CorpNet CEO Nellie Akalp. “As an entrepreneur, revenue growth is a top priority and I am proud of the strides CorpNet has made over the last few years. Above all, I am humbled and grateful that we’ve been given the opportunity to provide jobs and stability to our team. The last year and a half have been so uncertain for many. The fact that CorpNet’s growth has allowed us to hire new team members who were let go of their previous jobs is really what keeps me motivated and moving. Being recognized on this esteemed list is a true testament to our hard work and dedication to the business community across the United States.”

In 1982, Inc. introduced the Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing privately held companies in the United States. In 2007, the Inc. 500 was expanded to the Inc. 5000 to capture a broader spectrum of the entrepreneurial landscape. Pandora, 7 Eleven, Toys ‘R’ Us, Zipcar, Zappos.com, and numerous other well-known brands have been honored by the Inc. 5000. In 2020, Inc. added the Inc. 5000 Regionals, comprising six region-specific lists, in California, Florida, the Midwest, Texas, and the New York and Washington, D.C., metro each with 250 companies areas.

In 2021, CorpNet ranked 3,134 on the list. Our company also made the list in 2015 (ranking 2,505), 2016 (ranking 4,856), and 2020 (ranking 4,900).

Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria.

In this post, we’re pleased to introduce CorpNet Co-Founder Phil Akalp and the video that features him.

Who Is Phil Akalp?

Phil says most people know him as “Nellie’s husband.” The couple has been building companies together for several decades. They sold their first company to Intuit in 2008 for $20 million — and then decided to get right back into the world of business ownership. In 2009, with four desks and PCs in the back room of their house, they launched CorpNet.

Before becoming an entrepreneur, Phil felt that he didn’t really fit in anywhere. Out of law school, he struggled to find a job as an attorney. But that was a blessing in disguise because it led him to where he truly does fit in — entrepreneurship.

As someone who thrives on keeping busy and productive, Phi’s passion and determination have been instrumental in driving CorpNet’s growth from the very beginning.

Other CorpNet team members say Phil’s magnetic personality lights up the room. They describe him as “the brains behind CorpNet” and someone who thinks out of the box.

Watch Phil’s video now to get to know more about him and his personal credo to have the most significant positive impact on those around him.

No one exemplifies hard work and dedication more than our Senior Account Manager, Amanda Beren. We’ve recently featured Amanda in a video in our series that highlights various CorpNet team members. In this post, you’ll learn more about Amanda and have an opportunity to watch the video that features her.

Who Is Amanda Beren?

Amanda has worked with CorpNet’s owners, Nellie and Phil Akalp, since our company’s launch — and at the Akalps’ prior business incorporation company (which they sold to Intuit in 2005). Coming from a family with entrepreneurial roots (her parents own their own businesses), Amanda understands the opportunities and challenges that CorpNet’s clients face.

Her favorite part of her job at CorpNet is the people she works with, who she views as family.

Amanda’s colleagues share that feeling of connectedness. They love working with her and learn a lot from her wealth of knowledge and experience. Moreover, they say Amanda is a joy to be around. She inspires them to advance their skills and become the best versions of themselves.

Amanda is not only a “walking encyclopedia” of business filings knowledge, but also, she has an unparalleled passion for her job. Our clients adore her and know they’re in the most capable hands as she helps them make their entrepreneurial dreams come true.

Every person on the CorpNet team has contributed to our continued success. Our recently created series of videos features several of our team members to give you a glimpse of “who’s who” and their take on what they do and why they do it. In this post, we’re thrilled to introduce CorpNet Co-Founder Nellie Akalp and the video that features her.

Who Is Nellie Akalp?

Nellie loves educating and inspiring entrepreneurs and other business professionals. She finds her inspiration to do so through God and her family.

Nellie’s husband, Phil, says that Nellie is the most passionate and committed individual he has ever met. Other CorpNet team members echo that sentiment, calling Nellie “a force of nature” and “small but mighty.” A driver and a doer, Nellie encourages others and empowers them to achieve their potential.

They also tell us she’s the most loving and loyal friend you’ll ever meet. Nellie has a way of making everyone love her — as a boss and an individual. She loves her team and her job. And it shows!

In building and growing CorpNet, Nellie’s determination has been fueled — not by money — but by the excitement and satisfaction of creating something out of nothing. She believes with her whole heart that you have to love what you do and do what you love. When you possess that passion, success naturally follows.

Watch Nellie’s video now to get to know her better and learn why everyone at CorpNet and beyond feels motivated and valued in her presence.

CorpNet’s Inc. profile can be found here.

“It is a true honor to have our company, CorpNet.com, named again on the Inc.5000 list! This is huge as our 2022 recognition secures us as our highest rank yet and I am beyond proud of the team behind us making this happen every day.
In 1982, Inc. introduced the Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing privately held companies in the United States. Since then, this prestigious list of the nation’s most successful private companies has become the hallmark of entrepreneurial success and the place where future household names first make their mark. Today, the list is a distinguished editorial award, a celebration of innovation, a network of entrepreneurial leaders, and an effective public relations showcase. The Inc. 5000 ranks companies by overall revenue growth over a three-year period. All 5,000 honoree companies are individually profiled on Inc.com.
